There are millions of plugins available to enhance the front and back end of wordpress websites. Here is a list of plugins I have used for this site:
All-in-one WP Migration
With over 2m+ downloads this is a plugin which has been highly rated. This is great for backup and a drag and drop method to move a site from one domain to another with minimum effort.
Comes standard with wordpress installation to protect the site against spam.
Contact form 7
A contact form plugin which works with the chosen theme.
Custom Adobe Fonts (Typekit)
Enables the use of Typekit for the site.
Duplicate Post Page Menu & Custom Post Type
Plugin to duplicate portfolio pages and posts easily.
Front end drag and drop page builder.
Insert Headers and Footers Plugin
Rather than inserting the tracking code directly into the function.php, I have opted to use this plugin to insert the tracking code because if I insert the code manually into the code it will be override if I change the theme. I also picked this plugin as I’m used to the google analytics dashboard rather than a third party dashboard which display within wordpress. However, I’d suggest MonsterInsight if future clients prefers to have all information display within wordpress.
Phlox Core elements / Phlox Portfolio
Specific plugins for theme used.
Really Simple SSL
Any website without an SSL certificate will come up as “Not Secured”, a lot of host will offer a free SSL certificate. This site is hosted via Site Ground and it offers SSL certificate through Lets Encrypt. To activate this I have opted to use Really Simple SSL which has a simple 3 step process to enable SSL on the website.
Between Sucuri and Wordfence I have opted for Sucuri. The main difference between the two is Sucuri is malicious traffic gets filtered and discarded before it gets to the website. Where as with a localised plugin like Wordfence, it means the website’s server will need to analyse the malicious traffic and discard it. During a DDoS attack, the site could still get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of traffic.
UpDraftPlus is a backup plugin, while All-In-One WP Migration also allows backup, with UpDraftPlus there’s an option of setting up regular back-ups.
W3 Total Cache
Caching enhances the speed and performance of a website, a fast website not only improve the user experience it also get a favourable rank with Search Engine. I have opted for W3 total cache which is one of the most popular caching plugin for wordpress.
Reset the site to the default installation without modifying any files.
Allow visitors to like and unlike pages, posts and comments.
